Cake, cake, cake...it's coming out our ears! Thankfully, my family loves to eat all the scraps, mistakes, and experiments. I've been trying to take better pictures of my cakes, trying different angles, close up shots, different spacing in the picture, etc. I would love any feedback or tips from all of you photographers out there. I also want to know what is appealing when you look at pictures of my cakes so I know what is best to put on my website. SO, here is the first test: I'm putting several shots of a wedding cake I just did. What do you think should go on the website?
A. Conservative
B. Landscape
C. From the Top
D. At an angle

C. for sure. Call me and I'll give you some "cake photography" lessons next time you make a cake! That cake is GOR-geous, by the way!
I would go with A or C. Close ups are better. Way cute cake!
Stacey,
From a strictly photographic point of view your conservative view is the best. To enhance it even more you need to focus on only the cake and throw the background into a soft focus. This will give the cake an envrionment to be in and put emphasis on it. 20+ years of photographing stuff sez you are doing great!
Definitely C or D. It is more appealing to the eye... Like DTC guy said... you need to throw the background into soft focus... looks great as usual!
Agreed with the above comments. But, I don't care so much about how it looks, I just want to eat it. Your cakes are the BEST!
what a gorgeous cake! you are so talented stace! i like the comments about the soft focus as well. i think it would be really eye catching.
I agree with Jandi...I just want to eat the cake. But a soft focus in the background makes sense since I was distracted by the background in the top two.
OK--someone needs to show me how to do a soft focus on my cheap camera. Can cheap camera's even do that? And thank you for all of your awesome comments about the cake. You all are so sweet!
I think you should maybe put a couple of shots of each cake on the website. Overall shot and then maybe some close details. I am not a photographer, but I'm just sayin' I can't wait to see your work this weekend.!!!
